Frequently asked questions
What is a Unix epoch timestamp?
The number of seconds (or milliseconds) since January 1, 1970 at 00:00 UTC. It is the standard way databases, APIs, and logs represent moments in time.
How do I tell if my timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds?
A 10-digit number around 1.7 billion is seconds. A 13-digit number around 1.7 trillion is milliseconds. Use the unit toggle at the top.
Why do I get a different ISO string than my server?
ISO 8601 strings can be expressed in any timezone. The UTC row is timezone-neutral; the local row reflects the timezone you picked.
Is this synced with NTP?
It uses your browser's clock. If your computer's time is wrong, the 'Now' button will reflect that. Sync your OS clock for accurate results.
