PDF Compress

Shrink PDF file size for sharing and email

How it works. Each page is re-rendered as a compressed image, then assembled into a new PDF. The output is smaller but text in the compressed PDF is no longer selectable (it becomes part of the image). Use this for sharing photo-heavy PDFs by email. If you need to preserve selectable text, keep the original.

Frequently asked questions

Will text in the compressed PDF still be selectable?

No. This tool re-renders each page as a compressed image and assembles a new PDF. Text becomes part of the image and is no longer selectable or searchable. If you need to keep selectable text, keep the original PDF.

How much will my PDF shrink?

It depends on the content. Image-heavy PDFs can shrink 60 to 90%. Text-only PDFs may shrink very little, since text was already compact in the original. Try the Strong preset for the largest reduction.

Why is the file size not smaller?

If your PDF was already optimized (text-only, small images), there is no room left to compress without losing visible quality. The result panel will tell you.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression uses PDF.js and pdf-lib both running entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent over the network.
